How to plan a month of social media content

A simple five-step system to plan a month of posts, stay consistent, and turn followers into customers, without posting in a panic every day.

Most businesses don't fail at social media because their posts are bad. They fail because they post in bursts, then disappear for weeks. A monthly content plan fixes that. Here's the same process our strategists use, simplified so you can do it yourself.

1. Set one goal for the month

Do you want more website visits, more enquiries, more followers, or more sales of one product? Pick one. The goal decides what you post and what you measure.

2. Know who you're talking to

Write a short description of your ideal customer: their age, location, what they care about and what problem you solve for them. Check your page insights to see who actually follows you. Every post should speak to that person.

3. Choose three or four content pillars

Pillars are the recurring themes you post about. For example, a café might use:

  • Product: new menu items, specials, behind the counter.
  • Proof: customer photos, reviews, busy weekend moments.
  • Helpful tips: how to brew coffee at home, pairing ideas.
  • People: meet the team, local community events.

Rotating pillars keeps your feed varied without having to invent ideas from scratch every day.

4. Build a simple calendar

Decide how often you can post consistently. Two to four posts a week done well beats daily posts you can't sustain. Put your pillars on fixed days, add any dates that matter (launches, holidays, sales), and write a one-line idea for each slot. Prepare the graphics and captions in one batch, with relevant hashtags and a clear call to action.

5. Schedule, then measure

Use scheduling tools so posts go out at the times your audience is most active, even when you're busy. At the end of the month, look at which posts got the most reach, engagement and clicks, and do more of what worked.

Add a small ad budget

Organic reach on most platforms is limited. Boosting your best post or running a small, well-targeted Facebook or Instagram ad campaign puts your content in front of new people who match your ideal customer.
